The Department of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade is a successor of Maritime Institute at the Underground University of Western Lands, which was active during the Second World War, College of Seaborne Trade and Higher Economic School in Sopot with its Faculty of Maritime Economics, which realized the idea of educating economic personnel for companies operating in the field of transport and seaborne trade and the entire marine sector, even before the founding of University of Gdańsk. Among the lecturers of these schools - our predecessors, were many distinguished people, who contributed to the economic development of Polish Coast, such as Stanisław Darski, Eugeniusz Kwiatkowski, Bolesław Kasprowicz, Tadeusz Ocioszyński i Tadeusz Łodykowski.
Department of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade has adapted education programs to the present needs while retaining traditional educational profile related to the maritime transport and seaborne trade. At the same time in the last years, due to the transformation and change in the economy and labor market, the research and didactic activities of our Institute broadened, encompassing issues connected with global economy and e-commerce. This had also an impact on the structure of the Department of Maritime Transport and Seaborne Trade, which is currently divided into three divisions:
