Communicating Market
Identity in International Environment
Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu
Gdańskiego, Gdańsk 2008
This book mainly aims to recognize the determinants of
communicating the market identity (the term close to corporate
identity) of economic entities functioning in the international
environment, taking into account the impact of economic thought
on shaping those determinants.
A properly created and communicated market identity may endow an
organization with individual features by distinguishing and
separating it within its environment, as well as may support
creating the relations with stakeholders, leading to
strengthening of partnership ties, which fits the idea of
relationship marketing. Moreover, in line with the postulates of
the value-based marketing paradigm, identity as a component of
non-tangible assets creating an intelectual value, strengthens
competitive advantage of an organization on the market. On the
other hand, as the objective of both scientific and practical
research, identity requires interdisciplinary and holistic
attitude, which is reflected by the research perspective of
grounded theory used in this book.
In this book the author attracts attention to the general social
phenomenon - perceived from an economic perspective - that is
the return to humanistic values. An assumption was adopted that
in the centre of presented reflection will always be a human
being, with his or her inviolable and inalienable dignity,
attached to everlasting traditions, representing both sides of
the market: demand and supply. It should be stressed here that
the sixth chapter shows the directions of applying the concept
of identity, on the basis of the example of family enterprises.
They belong to significant objectives of academic research, as
well as play an important role in the economy on the
international scale. There were identified universal foundations
of family enterprises identity, also indicating the
distinguishers of autonomous character. On the background of
worldwide tendencies, the identity components deciding on the
survival ability of Polish family enterprises were distinguished.
The book is completed with conclusions on theoretical and
empirical analysis of determinants of market identity in
communication process in the international environment, as well
as outlining the directions of further research.
A crucial element of the book was the author’s own empirical
research, using primary sources, carried out for the needs of
this publication, included in three projects: ”Attitude to
Communicating Market Identity in International Environment”,
”Communicating Enterprises Identity in Poland in 1989-2005” and
”Identity of Polish Family Enterprises Established Before 1988
Against Challenges of International Environment”.

NOT ONLY LOGOTYPE. DIFFERENTIATION AND INTEGRITY
IN BUSINESS
Oficyna Wydawnicza
Branta, Bydgoszcz 2004
The idea of the book came from business and academic
needs. The authors were asked many times to write a simple and clear guide to the
identity. The book is written for people who are interested in why companies behave in the
way they do and about how their behaviour relates to their appearance. It is aimed
primarily at managers, particularly those who may be involved in shaping their company and
brand image i.e. executives in general, marketing and PR people. The book will also
interest not only young people who think of going into business but the students involved
in art and design as well. The book touches some historic issues of identity. It shows
appropriate historical analogies. The colourful pictures and drawings present roots and
grounds of modern thinking; from totem, catholic church to medieval heraldry, from AEG to
Orange. It shows the nature of many companies, from a small family business Pellowski to a
huge organization such as Poczta Polska employing up to 100 000 people. The publication
presents the development of CI in Poland. Substantial changes in approach to the
"image problems" are illustrated by examples from Polish banking sector.
Changing consumers' behaviour have resulted in market oriented strategies, i.e. McBank and
internet bank. The book concentrates on state owned organisations as well as on
multinational organizations, making business strategy visible through design. Identity has
now moved way beyond the commercial area. More and more sport events, cities and regions
use the tools of identity in creating the desired image. The book presents the development
of the identity concept, highlighting trademarks, visual systems, corporate identity and
branding. Graphic design begins with an holistic approach emphasising behaviours,
communications as well as the visual image. Significant management resource, helps
managers build successful brands. Because of the high visibility and impact of major
brands, the changes underline a turning point in organization's life. Branding programmes
are emerging as a result of economic change. The book focuses on the factors, which lie
beyond identity programmes. It presents answers to the discussions concerning identity in
a clear and straightforward manner. The book acts as a practical information guide,
leading the reader, through the stages of beginning and managing identity programmes. Step
by step the book tackles issues, such as: Investigation - understanding the situation,
Strategy - finding the recommendations, Design - developing the identity, Management -
running the programme, Introduction - communicating the vision, Implementation - making it
happen. Additionally it presents a wide spectrum of qualitative and quantitative research
methods, as well as visual and ergonomic tests. Each paragraph supplies useful
information's, sample documents, key points and relevant examples. The change of identity
involves the risk of making fundamental mistakes. Advise on how to avoid such mistakes and
make the programme as effective as possible is based on the experience of guiding and
consulting almost 200 companies through the process of changing identity. Finally the
authors focus on the role of consultants, as an identity advisor. |

COUNTERTRADE IN CONTEMPORARY WORLD ECONOMY
Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Gdańskiego, Gdańsk
2004
The aim of the dissertation is to
present a systematic, orderly arrangement of knowledge about the role of countertrade in
contemporary world economy, in particular to define the reasons of its existence, to
classify its forms, present the directions of its evolution and sketch the idea of
planning and implementation of countertrade transactions in a company. The dissertation
presents as well the role of banks in international countertrade and the attitude of the
GATT/WTO, IMF and OECD towards that form of trade exchange. The whole concept of the
dissertation is directed towards the verification of its fundamental thesis, claiming that
the countertrade is a rational response of business entities to distortions in the
operation of the mechanism of competition in international markets resulting from crisis
developments in world economy, payment difficulties and protectionist practices applied by
governments of a number of countries. Under conditions of market imperfections it
facilitates the realisation of requested goals in the sphere of foreign trade; mainly,
however, of a short-term nature. The author used the theory of market distortions to
explain the basic issues of international countertrade.

COMPETITIVE FACTORS IN RETAIL BANKING
Pub. University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk 2002
The book refers to the newest tendencies in the retail banking
sector. Technological revolution along with the deregulation of financial services
business in most of the countries poses serious threats to the position of banks. The
threat comes from the activity of non-bank institutions as well as from the changing
habits of the customers. This makes it necessary for retail banks to change their
management policies and to follow the pattern of commercial multi-service businesses
rather than the old-style financial institutions. In particular, banks must develop new
competences and management skills refering to non-traditional intagible assets as: brand,
marketing communication and customer relations.
The author identifies the key success factors in retail banking. They are as follows:
Size (critical mass) – including the biggest M&A transactions in the banking sector,
technologial and data-processing infrastructure, multi-channel distribution (including
e-banking and m-banking), distinctive market strategy, strong brand policy, continuous
customer relationship
This book should be of interest for students studying banking, management and marketing.
It should be also of use for managers of banks and other financial institutions.

FOREIGN DIRECT INVESTMENT IN ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT OF
SOUTH-EAST ASIAN COUNTRIES (ASEAN)
Publ. University of Gdańsk, Gdańsk 1998
Honoured with Minister of National Education Award, the publication
“Foreign Direct Investment in Economic Development of South-East Asian Countries
(ASEAN)” written by Ewa Oziewicz (273 pp.) appeares to be the first book on the
South-East Asia in Polish.
Foreign direct investment used to be treated in a very controversial way by the host
developing economies in the past. Today nobody denies its positive role in the development
of host economies, although its influence as well as the rate of this influence have not
been thoroughly checked and analysed so far.
The book focuses on the ASEAN countries' experience with FDI in the past. The dynamic
growth sustained for so many years in those economies, being called the "Asian
miracle", was to a great extent connected with FDI, especially in the last two
decades.
